Recipe for Vietnamese beef pho
What is pho? Pho is the dish you can eat at anytime in a day because it is easy to eat and do not make you feel fed up with. In which, beef pho is considered as the typically traditional dish in Vietnamese cuisine. Instead of eating out with the worry of the hygiene safety, you can try to cook Vietnamese beef noodle soup at home. I will introduce to you simple recipe for a delicious bowl of Vietnamese beef pho.
Ingredients for beef pho
– Beef marrow and shank bones: about 2kg
– Beef chuck: about 700 – 800 grams
– 5 star anises, 1 cinnamon
– 4 shallots
– 1 fresh ginger
– Spcies for pho: fish sauce, salt, seasoning powder, pepper, chilli
– Rice noodle
– Spring onion, basil, onion, bean sprouts, lemon wedges
Simple steps to cook beef pho
– Step 1: Firstly, rinse beef marrow and shank bones and drain well in a mesh sieve. To make beef bones better, you can broil them for 10 minutes.
– Step 2:
+ After bring the beef bones to a broil, put them into a large pot and fill with cold water. When boiling, remove the water out of the pot. Then, add water to cover over the beef bones to simmer for 2 hours.
+ To to get the best pho broth, you should bring star anises, cinnamon and shallot to a broil. Afterthat, wash the ingredients well without peeling and then, put all into the beef pho broth pot. Continue simmering for 1 hour. Taste for salt, seasoning powder and add fish sauce, if necessary.
– Step 3:
+ Thinly slice onion and and shallot. Wash and finely chop basil and spring onion. Rinse bean sprouts.
+ When serving is ready, submerge rice noodles in the hot water and put noodles in a bowl
+ With the beef, you should slice the beef thinly across the grain. You can either marinate beef slices with spices and stir fry before eating or marinate it with spices without stir frying.
+ If you want to eat beef pho with well-done, put the beef into the broth until it is well done. Transfer to the bowl and add bean sprouts, spring onion and basil. Ladle the hot broth over the surface.
+ In case you want to eat the beef pho with rare beef, prepare a bowl of rice noodle with bean sprouts, finely chopped spring onions and basil on the top, and submerge the beef with the hot water. Then, ladle the hot broth over the surface of the bowl. When eating, you can squeeze some lemon wedges (or rice vinegar) and add chilli slices (or chilli sauce) to make the dish more tasty and attractive.
